Finding Clarity in Confusion

Life can be overwhelming. Sometimes, we reach a point where nothing makes sense, and we don’t know what to do or where to go. It feels like standing at a crossroads without a signpost. But here’s the truth—everyone goes through this. The key is not to panic but to take a step back and find a way forward, one small step at a time.

Accept the Uncertainty

The first thing to do when confusion takes over is to accept that it’s okay to feel lost. We often pressure ourselves to have everything figured out, but that’s unrealistic. Even the most successful people have moments of doubt. Instead of resisting uncertainty, acknowledge it. This simple act can make a huge difference in how you handle the situation.

Pause and Reflect

When things don’t make sense, the best thing to do is take a break. Trying to force clarity can make the confusion worse. Instead, step away from the chaos—go for a walk, meditate, or simply sit in silence. Reflection allows your mind to reset and often brings unexpected insights.

Write It Down

Thoughts can be messy when they stay in your head. Writing them down helps you see things more clearly. Jot down your worries, your options, or even random thoughts. This exercise doesn’t need to be structured; just getting words on paper can lighten the burden and offer new perspectives.

Talk to Someone

You don’t have to figure everything out alone. A trusted friend, mentor, or family member can provide valuable insights. Sometimes, just talking about your confusion can help you process it better. If you don’t feel like talking, even reading a book or listening to a podcast can give you new ideas and inspiration.

Take One Small Step

When you don’t know where to go, don’t focus on the whole journey. Just take one step forward. It could be as simple as researching options, sending an email, or learning something new. Progress is made one small step at a time, and movement creates momentum.

Trust the Process

Life has a way of working things out, even when it doesn’t seem like it. The confusion you feel today might make perfect sense later. Trust that things will fall into place when the time is right. You are not stuck; you are in the middle of figuring things out.

Conclusion

Feeling lost is not the end—it’s a sign that you’re about to grow. Instead of fearing uncertainty, embrace it. Accept the confusion, take a pause, and move forward step by step. In time, things will start making sense again. And remember, you are not alone. Everyone feels lost sometimes, but those moments often lead to the greatest discoveries or something good may happen.

And find the Truth in the Bible. He, the Way, the Truth and the Life, is a person and wants to know us as a Father knows His children.

I used to teach the students in my poetic artist in residencies this trick of writing out confusion. It’s absolutely amazing how our thoughts and feelings clarify as we write about them, and a further benefit is received when we read it afterward and agree with ourselves about how much sense we really made. In addition, we now possess a tool for calm communication if we wish to make use of it in this way. Interesting augmentations to effect are widely said to sometimes be gained by doing the writing in longhand, also backward and/or upside down, or by using the less dominant hand. Da Vinci swore by it. A fascinating field for experimentation!
