Hesiod wrote an epic poem that depicts the creation of Pandora by Zeus. And later, he gifted her the box which ended the Golden Age of humankind.
So long time ago, God Zeus married his daughter to Epimetheus. And as a wedding gift, Zeus gave Pandora a special jar. However, she was not to open it, even if she was curious about it. But as the days passed, Pandora finally opened it. The result was that many diseases in the form of moths buzzed out, and before Pandora had closed the lid, all evils and sicknesses had escaped. All that was left in there was Hope, which was released later.

PANDORA’S STORY IN DETAIL
The story of Pandora’s box begins with the story of Zeus, Prometheus, and Epimetheus. These two brothers were Titans but pledged their loyalty to Zeus and the Olympians.
Zeus rewarded Prometheus and Epimetheus for their loyalty and gave them the job of creating the first creatures to live on Earth.
Epimetheus formed the animals and gave each a special skill and form of protection. Prometheus took his time moulding man and was left with no forms of protection since Epimetheus had already given them all away. Prometheus knew man needed some form of protection and asked Zeus if he could let the man have a fire. Zeus refused to do it because the fire was only for the gods.
Prometheus ignored Zeus and gave man fire anyway. For this, Prometheus was punished. Zeus tied him with chains to a rock far away in the Caucasus Mountains where nobody would find him. Every day Zeus sent an eagle to feast upon Prometheus’ liver, which grew back every day so that Prometheus would have to endure this torture daily until Heracles found Prometheus and killed the eagle and let Prometheus go.
This torture wasn’t enough of a punishment for Zeus who also believed that humans should be punished for accepting the gift of fire from Prometheus. To punish man, Zeus created a woman named Pandora. She was moulded to look like the beautiful goddess Aphrodite. She received the gifts of wisdom, beauty, kindness, peace, generosity, and health from the gods.
Zeus brought her to Earth to be Epimetheus’ wife. Even though Epimetheus’ brother, Prometheus, had warned him of Zeus’ trickery and told him not to accept gifts from the gods, Epimetheus was too taken with her beauty and wanted to marry her anyway.
As a wedding present, Zeus gave Pandora a box (in ancient Greece this was called a jar) but warned her never to open it. Pandora, who was created to be curious, couldn’t stay away from the box and the urge to open the box overcame her. Horrible things flew out of the box including greed, envy, hatred, pain, disease, hunger, poverty, war, and death. All of life’s miseries had been let out into the world. Pandora slammed the lid of the box back down. The last thing remaining inside of the box was hope. And finally, humans have been able to hold onto this hope in order to survive that Pandora had let out.
moral of the story
The moral of the story is that once something is opened, it cannot be closed, and what we spoil we spoil forever. Mining the last remaining wildernesses and the critical ecosystems of our Earth is irreversible. The other brother, in the story, Prometheus, warns us that hindsight is too late and hoping for the best is ignorant and impotent. What the story recommends is foresight: from this come to the gifts of true civilisation and right relation towards the Earth, our source of life.

WHAT IF BOX OPENED IN 2020?
In the year 2020, the world saw and felt the curse of a dreadful disease, named – CORONA. It affected almost every corner of the world. The sufferings were so severe that an individual couldn’t come out of the pain. Therefore, if pandora’s box opens in 2020 then it may contain feelings of empathy, positivity, happiness, optimism, tolerance power and relief along with hope for all the distressed, miserable and unhappy people. The people came out of their houses to aid the needy ones, to spread positivity among families who were suffering from pain with a feeling of hope that they will be better soon. This was becoming a social campaign where each and every individual was helping one another by giving support in form of empathy or relief. And this was all possible by being positive and optimistic about the situation and circumstances.

Thus, In modern languages, Pandora’s box” may also be used as a metaphor that refers to a source of endless trouble or could provide a boon against it.
