Teachers’ Day is celebrated on different dates worldwide to honor the contributions of teachers to society. In India, it is observed on September 5th to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a renowned philosopher, scholar, and the second President of India. When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the President, his students requested to celebrate his birthday, to which he responded that instead of celebrating his birthday, they should observe the day as Teachers’ Day to recognize the vital role of teachers in shaping society.
On this day, students express their gratitude to teachers through cards, flowers, and special programs. Schools often organize events where students perform cultural activities, mimic their teachers, or even teach younger students, symbolizing the bond between teachers and learners.

A Teacher’s Touch
With patience in your heart and wisdom in your hand,
You guide us through, to understand.
In every lesson, a seed is sown,
In every student, how much we’ve grown.
You light the path, you show the way,
A beacon bright through night and day.
In every question, you see a spark,
And fan it ‘til it leaves a mark.
Your words are kind, your spirit strong,
You lift us up where we belong.
For every heart that learns to fly,
A teacher’s love will never die.
