Life is full of expectations, isn’t it? Whether it’s at work, home, or among friends, we often find ourselves trying to make everyone happy. But here’s a truth we all need to embrace: you cannot please everyone. And that’s okay. Instead, focus on doing your duty and staying true to yourself.
Think about it—no matter how much you try, someone will always think you could have done things differently. Maybe your boss wishes you worked faster, or your family or friends or any near and dear once…. It’s impossible to meet every demand, and in trying to do so, you might neglect your needs and responsibilities.
You’re setting yourself up for disappointment when you constantly strive to make everyone happy. Instead, remind yourself of what’s truly important. What are your values? What responsibilities do you need to prioritise? When you’re clear on those, it becomes easier to let go of the need for everyone’s approval.
Now, I’m not saying you should ignore other people’s feelings or opinions altogether. Being considerate is important. But there’s a difference between being considerate and bending over backward to meet everyone’s expectations. It’s about striking a balance. You can listen to feedback and make adjustments, but you don’t have to change your entire approach just to win someone’s favor.
Remember, doing your duty is about fulfilling your responsibilities with sincerity and integrity. It’s about showing up, putting in the effort, and being proud of what you accomplish. When you focus on this, you’ll find a sense of satisfaction that doesn’t rely on external validation.
So, the next time you find yourself worrying about pleasing everyone, take a step back. Ask yourself, “Am I doing my best? Am I fulfilling my responsibilities?” If the answer is yes, then that’s enough. Not everyone will agree with your choices, and that’s a part of life. Embrace it, stay true to yourself, and keep doing what you know is right. You’ll find that it brings you a kind of peace that no amount of approval from others can match.
