International Women’s Day (IWD) was first observed in 1909 in the United States, initiated by the Socialist Party of America. However, the movement gained global recognition in 1910 when German activist Clara Zetkin proposed the idea at the International Socialist Women’s Conference. The first official International Women’s Day was celebrated on March 19, 1911, in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. Later, in 1913, it was moved to March 8, the date we celebrate today.
The day originally focused on advocating for women’s rights, including better working conditions, voting rights, and equality. Over time, it evolved into a global celebration of women’s achievements in various fields while continuing the fight for gender equality. In 1977, the United Nations officially recognized March 8 as International Womenโs Day, making it a worldwide observance.
๐ธ She Rises ๐ธ
She walks with grace, unshaken, strong,
Through storms and trials, she moves along.
Her voice once hushed, now loud and clear,
A force of change we hold so dear.
She builds, she leads, she lights the way,
Breaking chains, she dares to stay.
No dream too high, no goal too steep,
She sows the future, roots run deep.
On this day, we stand in cheer,
For every woman, far and near.
Strong and fearless, bold and free,
She shapes the worldโlet her be!
๐ธโจ Happy International Women’s Day! โจ๐ธ
